Relaunching the series “The Art Trades – Artisanal Notebooks”
After “The Terracotta of Impruneta,” seventh in the series of “The Art Trades – Artisanal Notebooks,” sponsored by the Ente Cassa di Risparmio of Florence through the Florentine Foundation for Artistic Craftsmanship, comes the eighth chapter in the series: textiles.
This volume’s creators are Daniela Degl’Innocenti, an art historian specializing in textiles and the curator and principal scientific expert at the Textile Museum of Prato, and Mattia Zupo, a specialist in textile technology, working in collaboration with Dora Liscia Bemporad, an art history professor in the fields of applied art and goldsmithing at the University of Florence.
Beginning with an historical journey from the 1200s to the present day, this story details the evolution of textile manufacturing over the course of those 800 years in both Florence and Lucca. It continues with an exploration of the technical and technological aspects of creating textiles (looms, threads, colors and primary materials), including examples of the actual production of certain textiles and proposed itineraries to known museums (Fondazione Lisio, Museo del Tessuto di Prato, Museo del Costume, Museo degli Argenti). Translated in English and with a fluid design, this notebook will serve both as a scientific documentation and a tool of discovery, according to the intentions of the series, promoting the vitality and vibrancy of the artistic tradition of Tuscan artisans.
This volume is scheduled for publication in the second half of 2010.
